JOHNNY BLASTOFF GROUNDED IN TRADEMARK SUIT; RAMS, NFL WIN

The NFL and the Rams "won the final round" in a $100M
lawsuit filed originally in '95 by WI-based animated cartoon
company Johnny Blastoff, according to Greg Stohr of
BLOOMBERG NEWS. The U.S. Supreme Court, "without comment,
refused to revive" the company's trademark suit that "staked
its claim to the name 'St. Louis Rams' before" the team
moved from L.A. in '95. The Court's ruling "left intact an
appeals court decision" that gave the NFL and its teams
"broad rights over names, logos and slogans -- even if those
symbols don't have official status." The decision "could
help the NFL ensure" marketing rights when teams relocate or
"adopt slogans generated by fans" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 2/28).
