          In Boston, John Powers reported that the "top
     candidates to succeed" outgoing USOC CEO BILL HYBL are MA
     attorney PAUL GEORGE and USOC VP SANDRA BALDWIN (BOSTON
     GLOBE, 1/30)....Suns F RODNEY ROGERS is "planning to enter"
     NASCAR, as he has "aligned himself" as an investor with the
     Eel River Racing Pontiac team for driver JEFF FULLER (Gaston
     GAZETTE, 1/29)....In N.Y., Jane Tanner profiled Jaguars
     Owner WAYNE WEAVER: "Weaver is known as intensely driven and
     impatient with underlings who do not work hard enough to
     suit him, but also as a good listener with strong people
     skills who finds himself mediating among the egos of fellow
     team owners" (N.Y. TIMES, 1/30)....In Charlotte, Jon
     Goldberg profiled Charlotte resident and Pro Performance
     Marketing National Event Manager MATT MALM, who will be
     attending 365 pro and college sporting events over the next
     365 days in 48 states for UsFANS.  Malm will "report his
     findings" on the UsFANS Web site (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER,
     1/30)....Steelers President DAN ROONEY will join his late
     father ART ROONEY as the second father-son team enshrined in
     the NFL Hall of Fame during a ceremony in July in Canton,
     OH.  The Rooneys will "share that honor" with Giants co-
     Owner WELLINGTON MARA and his father TIM (BOSTON GLOBE,
     1/30)....JOHN GAHERIN, a negotiator who represented MLB in
     the '60s and '70s and "helped write baseball's first labor
     contracts and pension plan," died last Monday at the age of
     85 (N.Y. TIMES, 1/31)....JOHN MCENROE was profiled in
     Sunday's N.Y. TIMES MAGAZINE.  McEnroe had "brief
     discussions ... about starring in and producing a [TV]
     series spoofing the art world" (N.Y. TIMES MAGAZINE, 1/30).
