IN THE CARDS? WHERE WOULD NEW STADIUM BE PLACED?

AZ Gov. Jane Hull's task force seeking a new $329M
stadium for the NFL Cardinals now wants lawmakers "to
create" a new stadium and tourism authority that will choose
the location of the facility and "oversee the millions" of
dollars raised to finance the deal, according to Pat
Flannery of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Hull aide Ted Ferris said
that the new agency "would also oversee the spending of
tourism promotion funds included in the stadium financing
package." Of the $75M "expected from the Cardinals to fund
the stadium, "roughly" 34% "would be put up by" the NFL.
Cardinals VP Michael Bidwill said that the team was
"uncertain" how it would raise the rest of its share, but
did say, "We will be there" (AZ REPUBLIC, 1/22). The task
force "will present its plan" to Hull and the AZ Legislature
on January 31. An additional issue facing the stadium
proposal in the Legislature is "reluctance by many lawmakers
to commit to future spending" (AP, 1/22).
