News that NASCAR President and ISC Chair Bill France
Jr. has been diagnosed with cancer "will have little impact
on one of the nation's hottest companies," according to
Cecil Brumley of the DAYTONA NEWS-JOURNAL. France announced
Monday that he has been diagnosed with treatable cancer, but
will remain ISC Chair. ISC Dir of Investor Relations Wes
Harris said it was "business as usual" at ISC's offices
yesterday, and he added that France "was in this weekend."
Shares of ISC dropped $1.31 on Monday to close at $54, but
analysts have said the "price has been on the decline as
investors pull back, worried the company is overextending
itself in buying race tracks" (DAYTONA NEWS-JOURNAL, 12/21).
Also in Daytona, Godwin Kelly writes France "is said to be
in good spirits and hopes to defeat the disease" (DAYTONA
NEWS-JOURNAL, 12/21). In Orlando, George Diaz writes that
it "was not clear Monday whether" France "would relinquish"
his role with ISC (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 12/21). In Atlanta,
Michael Carvell writes that the news about France "surprised
the stock-car racing circuit" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 12/21).
