TEAM MARKETING NEWS: ARE COLTS MARKETING THOROUGHBREDS?

COLTS: The Colts clinched the NFL's AFC East division
yesterday, and in Indianapolis, Bill McCleery writes that
Logo Athletic's sales of the team's merchandise are "up
about" 10% over last year, but that "local buyers account
for most" of the increase (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 12/20). Also,
in Indianapolis, John Masson wrote that the Colts' local TV
ratings are up about 40% over last year. CBS Sports
spokesperson Jerry Caraccioli said that the Colts have
averaged "almost" a 25.0/47 local rating, with about 238,000
HHs watching the Colts each week, up from last year's
average of 170,132 HHs. Cleveland is the "only [NFL] market
with a bigger increase over last year" (INDY STAR, 12/19).
CUBS TAB NEW AD AGENCY: In Chicago, George Lazarus
reports that the Cubs have "assigned" its "mid- to high-
six" figure ad account to Chicago Creative Partnership
     "following a multi-agency competition." Cubs VP/Marketing &
Broadcasting John McDonough "expects new creative to appear
     in mid-January" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 12/20).
