NOTHING HOKIE ABOUT THIS PROMO: PLB SPORTS GOES ON CAMPUS

Pittsburgh-based PLB Sports and Octagon have launched a
limited edition collector's cereal around the VA Tech
football team called, "Hokie Toasties." The cereal will hit
grocery stores in VA around College Bowl Week and will be
available online at www.plbsports.com. PLB Sports said that
"Hokie Toasties" marks its first move into collegiate sports
food marketing (Octagon). In Richmond, Rex Bowman reports
that VA Tech will receive an 8% royalty on sales of the
cereal, which will sell for about $2.90 a box. The box's
cover is "Tech maroon and orange with a giant VT logo." PLB
Sales Manager Douglas Delo: "We strike while the iron's
hot." Octagon VP Patrick McGee said that if VA Tech wins
the national championship, the cereal could be distributed
in other states besides VA (RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 12/17).
FLUTIE FAD: Although the Bills are 8-5, Doug Flutie is
currently the 12th-ranked QB in the AFC and 25th in the NFL,
and the AP's Bill Porter reports that in NY "not everyone
considers Flutie Flakes the breakfast of champions anymore."
One clerk at a Buffalo supermarket said of PLB Sports's
Flutie Flakes: "They're not exactly flying off the aisles
like they used to" (AP, 12/17).
