SENATORS RECEIVE 75% TAX BREAK; WILL THIS HELP SAVE TEAM?

The Kanata, Ontario, City Council last night "made a
last-minute" vote to give the Senators a 75% "tax break" at
the Corel Centre, according to Harris & Philips of the
OTTAWA SUN, who report that Kanata "will still take in"
C$112,000 with the "tax reduction." Senators Chair Rod
Bryden, who was earlier "disappointed" when the Council did
not vote for a complete tax break, called the 75% "positive
and very meaningful." The Corel Centre is "paying about"
C$4.5M in property taxes this year, with the province and
region "collecting about" C$2M each. The province has said
that it will "match" property-tax breaks from the region and
the city of Kanata (OTTAWA SUN, 11/24).
