LAWMAKERS QUESTION TESTIMONY OF IOC'S DEFRANTZ AND EASTON

U.S. lawmakers are "examining whether high-ranking"
Olympic officials "lied" to Congress earlier this year while
"testifying about Olympic corruption," according to Linda
Fantin of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. IOC VP Anita DeFrantz and
IOC member Jim Easton told House and Senate Commerce
Committee members that they were "unaware that IOC members
or their relatives received expensive gifts from cities
vying" for the Olympics. But Fantin writes that Hogan &
Hartson attorneys who filed a "once-secret" report on the
bid scandal now "cast doubt on the accuracy" of DeFrantz's
and Easton's testimony. Easton and DeFrantz did not return
phone calls seeking comment (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 11/19).
