LA GOV. MIKE FOSTER HOPES SAINTS DON'T COME FOR LEASE HELP

          Despite complaints that the Saints' Superdome lease is
     "uncompetitive by current NFL standards," team Owner Tom
     Benson "has not asked the state for a better deal,"
     according to Ed Anderson of the New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE. 
     LA Gov. Mike Foster: "No one (from the Saints organization)
     has talked to me."  But Foster also "made it clear" that he
     is "not encouraging Benson to ask for help."  Foster: "I
     believe we ought to keep the deals we make.  They ought to
     keep theirs."  Foster said that he "won't change his
     position unless the Saints threaten to move to another city,
     or unless the team makes a 'compelling argument' that he
     hasn't heard yet" (New Orleans TIMES-PICAYUNE, 11/16).
