THAT'S THE CALLAWAY: SALES IN ASIA BOOST COMPANY'S INCOME

Callaway Golf's income "surged" to $17.8M in the third
quarter, up 201% from $5.8M during the same quarter in '98,
due to an increase in club sales overseas, according to Mike
Freeman of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. Callaway earned
$0.25 a share, "which hit the target expected by Wall Street
analysts." S.F.-based Hambrecht & Quist analyst Shawn
Milne: "In my mind, this was a very solid quarter for
Callaway. This has been an earnings turnaround story."
Callaway's third quarter numbers, released Wednesday, also
show that sales were up 6% to $183.3M, compared to $172.9M
last year. Milne added the golf industry continues to "firm
up" as the "market has stabilized" (UNION-TRIBUNE, 10/28).
