NO ROCKIN' THE VOTE IN AZ: CHALLENGE TO ARENA VOTE DENIED

          Maricopa County (AZ) Superior Court Judge Barry
     Schneider "rejected" the "last-minute challenge to an
     election" on a new arena for the Coyotes at Los Arcos Mall
     set for Tuesday in Scottsdale, Fountain Hills and Guadalupe,
     according to Alexa Haussler of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC.  Arena
     opponents "accused" Scottsdale and the Los Arcos Stadium
     District board of "failing to tell voters that the city is
     required to match voter-approved state subsidies" for a new
     facility, as the ballot "refers only to the state sales tax"
     of about $100M over 10 years.  But Schneider ruled that the
     ballot "is not misleading and that the Scottsdale City
     Council ultimately will vote whether to kick in matching
     funds" if the proposal passes (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 10/29).
