ESPN REPORTS THE IRS IS LOOKING INTO ACTIONS OF NFLPA

          ESPN's Bob Ley reported on "SportsCenter" that the U.S.
     Senate "is expanding its investigation of the [NFLPA] and
     that the [IRS] is beginning a probe of the players' union." 
     Ley: "The actions are in response to news that the union
     convinced the NFL to allow 16 players with positive drug
     tests to escape discipline under the league's drug policy
     four years ago."  Investigators for U.S. Senator and Chair
     of the Senate Caucus on Int'l Narcotics Charles Grassley (R-
     IA) "have viewed videotapes of the union meeting at which
     this deal was discussed. ... The IRS investigation centers
     on whether the union is properly conducting business as a
     not-for-profit corporation" (ESPN, 10/22).
