COYOTES HOWLING ON ELECTION NIGHT? POLL SHOWS SUPPORT

A poll of 600 registered voters in Scottsdale (AZ)
shows that most people "favor using public money to help
build" a new arena for the Coyotes at Los Arcos Mall,
according to Alexa Haussler of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. The
poll, conducted by AZ-based Analytical Group Inc. from
October 15-18, found that 59% were in favor of the arena
proposal, 28% were against it and 13% were undecided. Though
the $535M project will also be voted on by residents in
Fountain Hills and Guadalupe, the poll was conducted in
Scottsdale "because voters in that city, plus just one of
the other two, must approve the measure for the arena to be
built." The main reason most voters gave for supporting the
plan was that Scottsdale "needs the project to revive the
decaying" area around the mall (AZ REPUBLIC, 10/22).
OUTREACH: The Coyotes sponsored "Focus on the Hispanic
Market," an event put on by the AZ Hispanic Chamber of
Commerce. In AZ, Jane Larson: "Evidently the [team] senses
opportunity ... in a booming ethnic market not previously
known for an allegiance to hockey" (AZ REPUBLIC, 10/22).
