Oakland and Alameda County are considering a proposal
to "jazz up the outside" of Oakland-Alameda Coliseum with
"huge, glowing advertising displays and parking lot kiosks."
The signs could bring the city and county $1.5M in annual
income. But "one dispute is over" whether the Warriors own
rights to the marquee outside of the arena (CONTRA COSTA
TIMES, 10/22)....NEWSDAY's Murphy & Willen report that N.Y.
Mayor Rudy Giuliani "has shifted his emphasis back" to
building a new ballpark for the Yankees in the Bronx.
Giuliani, asked when a deal between the city and the team
might be negotiated: "It's on hold until after the World
Series" (NEWSDAY, 10/22)....In L.A., Kevin Modesti, on
Staples Center: "It's huge. ... It will never be called cozy
or charming. ... [But] you've got to like the new place.
You just don't have to love it" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 10/21).
...In Houston, Fran Blinebury writes that IHL Aeros Owner
Chuck Watson's actions to block a new downtown arena are
"childish" and states, "What is disturbing is the path he
has chosen to follow, strewn with obfuscation and
misdirection. OK, lies." Blinebury calls a new arena "the
necessary thing to do" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 10/22)....In St.
Paul, Charley Walters writes that MLB conducted a private
voter research poll to "determine" the chances of the city's
ballpark referendum passing on November 2 and found that it
