TV MONITOR: Last night's 11:00pm ET edition of CNN/SI's
"Sports Tonight" led with a World Series preview, followed
by the Rockies naming Buddy Bell as their manager. "Sports
Tonight" followed MLB coverage at 5:20 into the broadcast
with Broncos coach Mike Shanahan naming Brian Griese as the
starting QB for Sunday's game against the Patriots. ESPN's
"SportsCenter" led with a review of the Braves victory over
the Mets in the NLCS, followed by a World Series preview.
Early MLB coverage also included Bell, as well as Pete Rose
being allowed to participate in the MLB All-Century Team
ceremony before Game Two of the World Series on Sunday.
"SportsCenter" followed its MLB coverage at 9:46 into the
broadcast with a report on Griese. FSN's "Primetime" (NESN)
led with a report on the Cowboys, who have lost two straight
NFC East divisional games, followed by the Browns releasing
RB Rashaan Salaam. "Primetime" followed its NFL coverage at
5:48 with Rose and then a World Series preview (THE DAILY).
NOTES: In K.C., Jeffrey Flanagan, on "MNF" announcer
Boomer Esiason: "Boomer's 'insight' is predictable and his
delivery lacks any punch or humor" (K.C. STAR, 10/21)....In
Ft. Worth, Blane Bachelor noted that Saturday's MLS Burn-
Fire playoff game will be carried live by KXTX-IND in
Dallas, which is "noteworthy," as it marks the first time
the Burn "will play in a locally televised, live broadcast"
in its four-year history. Burn President & GM Billy Hicks
said that MLS Commissioner Don Garber "essentially sealed
the deal." Hicks: "He understood the importance of not only
for us, getting a playoff game on the air, but for the
league" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 10/20)....ESPN Int'l
signed a multi-year deal with Augusta National for Latin
American distribution rights to The Masters. The agreement
begins with next year's tournament and provides ESPN Int'l
with rights for all four rounds and playoffs, if necessary.
In addition, ESPN Int'l will provide tournament coverage in
Africa and the Middle East (ESPN Int'l).
