The "firing" of Dodgers President & CEO Bob Graziano
"is expected to signal a beginning" of additional changes in
the team's front office, according to Brian Dohn of the L.A.
DAILY NEWS, who cites team sources as saying that the
finance, accounting, marketing and community affairs
departments "will be scrutinized" by Fox Sports Enterprises
President Rick Welts. Welts said yesterday that he would
not become the team's new President & CEO, but that he would
"use his contacts from his NBA days in his search." Welts,
on what he is looking for in potential candidates: "I'm a
nut on this idea of community service. Also, it's got to be
someone who has to be a sports fan. Sports is like that.
It's not like selling pasta or automobiles." He added that
the new exec would not have to "be involved in baseball."
Welts has a list of six candidates, but has yet to start the
interview process. He said that a successor could be named
"by the end of October" in order to participate in MLB's GM
meetings and free-agency period (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 9/30).
