BORN TO LIVE ON STONE MOUNTAIN? FALCONS CONCERNED ABOUT SITE

Falcons officials "are still trying to decide whether
to go forward with plans to build" a two-story, 70,000-
square-foot team facility in Stone Mountain Park, GA,
according to Matt Winkeljohn of the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION.
The "main problem is that much of the underwriting committed
toward the construction price tag" of $18-20M is "based on
speculation." Some "would-be sponsors are not convinced yet
that they will make enough money on the deal." Falcons
officials "are concerned they would have to offer too much
in return, such as signs, tickets and Georgia Dome suites."
Atlanta Sports Council President Gary Stokan: "These naming
rights take a while to sell. It would be a shame if this
didn't work, because, long term, it would be beneficial to
the city ... and the fans" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 8/11).
