Redskins Owner Daniel Snyder has moved "quickly and
emphatically ... to leave his imprint on the franchise,"
naming former 49ers exec Vinny Cerrato as new Dir of Player
Personnel, according to Mark Maske of the WASHINGTON POST.
Team GM Charlie Casserly also "agreed to step aside ... and
serve the remaining two seasons" on his contract as Snyder's
consultant. Snyder noted the strained relationship between
Casserly and coach Norv Turner for the move: "My intent was
to leave the team management in place. But as I looked
further into the situation, it became aware to me how
difficult it was for the parties to work together. ... The
existing structure was not going to work." Snyder "likely"
will name a team president within several months (WASHINGTON
POST, 7/24). NEWSDAY's Bob Glauber wrote that Casserly
could end up at the NFL league office as an assistant to NFL
Dir of Football Operations George Young (NEWSDAY, 7/25).
REAX: In DC, Tony Kornheiser wrote that Snyder "has
made a quick point of marking his territory." Kornheiser:
"Snyder is coming on like a Mixmaster. For $800 million this
kid's not going off sailing in the middle of the afternoon"
(WASHINGTON POST, 7/24). Also in DC, Thomas Boswell wrote,
"Snyder has arrived like a cyclone" (WASHINGTON POST, 7/25).
