The Dodgers "unveiled the first of 30 planned luxury
boxes before Wednesday night's game, complete with gourmet
food and indoor/outdoor seating," according to Matt McHale
of the L.A. DAILY NEWS. The suites run from $370,000-390,000
for one season, and 15 of the suites have already been sold.
The suites can also be purchased in a half-season package
for around $185,000. Suite-holders will be able to take
batting practice with players before games, while Dodgers
"dignitaries," such as Tommy Lasorda, and front-office execs
will "be available to entertain clients in the suites during
the season." McHale writes that the suites are "proof that
the Dodgers have gone away from plans for" a new ballpark.
Team President Bob Graziano: "I never say never, but for the
foreseeable future our focus is here." Graziano also said
the club has not been approached about a potential naming
rights deal (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 7/22).
WHAT ABOUT BOB? Graziano said he held a staff meeting
after Saturday's L.A. Times report on Fox Sports Enterprises
President Rick Welts' increasing influence in the Dodgers
organization. Graziano: "It sounded like I was out and that
is not true. Having Rick here helps with the day-to-day
communication" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 7/22).
