CONE IS WHERE THE HEART IS: PERFECT PROCEEDS GO TO CHARITY

Yankees P David Cone, who became the 14th player in
modern MLB history to pitch a perfect game, will donate
proceeds he receives from the game memorabilia to charity,
according to Bob Klapisch of the Bergen RECORD. Andrew
Levy, who runs Cone's marketing arm, Wish You Were Here
Productions, said that memorabilia from the perfect game
could earn Cone "at least $1 million -- and that's being
conservative." An "industry observer" said Blue Jays P
David Wells "banked more than" $500,000 from items sold from
his perfect game last year. Cone will choose a charity
"from a long list of worthwhile causes" (Bergen RECORD,
7/20). Cone said he has "always been leery about signing
autographs for money," but will "sit down and talk about it
and try to figure out a way to tie it in to charities."
Cone: "If I can ... do some good for charities, then I'll
probably consider that heavily" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/20).
WHIRLWIND TOUR: Cone is scheduled to appear on the
"Late Show" with David Letterman and appeared on "Live with
Regis and Kathie Lee" this morning (THE DAILY). Cone: "I
don't want to do too much this week. I don't want to
embarrass myself" (N.Y. TIMES, 7/20). CBS's Letterman, on
Cone's perfect game: "To me, almost any game in Yankee
Stadium is a perfect game if you get out alive" (CBS, 7/19).
