IN THEIR MIND THEY'RE GOING TO CAROLINA? TEAMS EYE CHARLOTTE

Both the Expos and the Twins "remain interested" in
possibly relocating to Charlotte, according to Olson & Green
of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER. Charlotte Regional Baseball
Partnership Chair Johnny Harris: "Over the last 60 or 90
days there has been an indication of renewed interest in
Charlotte by a number of teams. There continues to be
interest by more than one." A source said those teams are
the Expos and Twins, and two sources said that if an MLB
team moved to Charlotte, it would eventually play at a
downtown ballpark near Ericsson Stadium. One source added
that Beaver Sports Chair Don Beaver, who attempted to
purchase the Twins and move them first to the Triad and then
Charlotte, "would not be the primary owner" of the Charlotte
club. But Beaver said that he "hasn't been contacted by
another potential ownership group" (CHARL. OBSERVER, 6/30).
