CENTER OF ATTENTION: NEW ARENA WILL HAVE AMENITIES GALORE

The $375M Staples Center will be "an unusually
extravagant sports venue," complete with $300,000 luxury
boxes and a Premier Club stadium bar with annual membership
dues "roughly 23 times the cost of the cheapest Clipper
season ticket," according to David Wharton of the L.A.
TIMES. Of the 160 suites, all but 14 have been leased at a
cost of between $197,000-307,500 per year. Univ. of OR
Warsaw Sports Marketing Center Dir Rick Burton said that the
Staples Center knows its clientele is "high-profile, seen-
it-all, done-it-all." Burton: "[With] Jack Nicholson
courtside and Dyan Cannon in the stands ... you'd better do
it right in Los Angeles" (L.A. TIMES, 6/27). Wharton wrote
that "the Fox Network will open a 10,000-square-foot sports
bar on the lower level" of the arena. Sources said that the
     arena's final cost "could exceed" $400M (L.A. TIMES, 6/27).
