OLYMPIC NOTES

The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Sally Beatty profiles GM's
Olympic ad campaign, which will be released 15 months before
the Games, "unusually early." Ads start during Game Three
of the NBA Finals on Monday and GM is "hoping to outsprint
rival Olympics sponsors and get more mileage" out of the
"roughly" $1B it has committed. Beatty: "It is unusual for
a company to run expensive commercials bragging about the
Games this early" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 6/18).
LET THEM PLAY! Under the header, "Let NHL Pros Play In
2002," a SALT LAKE TRIBUNE editorial states, "The NHL ...
should opt for a reprise and commit its players to the 2002
Games in Utah." The editorial calls the '98 Olympic NHL
trial "an unqualified success" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 6/18).
