SPALDING SPORTS CUTS 120 JOBS AND STREAMLINES OPERATION

          Spalding Sports Worldwide will eliminate more than 120
     jobs at its Gloversville, NY, plant, according to the N.Y.
     TIMES.  Spalding Sports VP/Human Resources Vaughn Rist said
     late last week that the company planned to reduce "costs by
     contracting out some" of the Top-Flite golf club assembly
     work that had been done in NY.  Assembly of the Top-Flite
     clubs will be moved to its Chicopee, MA, plant, where
     Spalding is based.  The company will continue to make golf
     balls in both plants, and it currently employs about 1,000
     in MA and about 200 in Gloversville (AP/N.Y. TIMES, 6/12).
