RATINGS NOTES: Weekend sports programming on some of the nets was pre-empted in various markets due to commitments to the Children's Miracle Network telethon (THE DAILY)....For broadcast numbers, one ratings point = 994,000 homes. For cable, "Cov. Area" = % of homes tuned in to that program in that network's universe of subscribers. NBA: NBC's Knicks-Pacers Game Five earned a 9.6 Nielsen rating, giving the network a cumulative playoff average rating through 23 games a 6.3/16, down 7% from last year's 6.8/19 over the same period (NBC). Game Five was down 23% from last year's Bulls-Pacers Game Five. NBC's average rating for the Knicks-Pacers series is 8.1, down 16% from last year's 9.6 for the Bulls-Pacers (N.Y. TIMES, 6/11). TENNIS: The Women's French Open Final rating was up 35% over last year's 2.3/7. The Men's French Open Final was up 65% over last year's 2.0/8 (NBC). The men's final rating was "the highest since" the Andre Agassi-Jim Courier final in '91 (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 6/11)....USA Network's French Open coverage produced a 188% gain in men 35-64, a 35% gain in men 25-54, and a 55% increase in adults 35-64. Overall, the net posted a 4% increase in HH delivery with a .5 average cable rating to 416,000 HHs, compared to last year's .5 rating in 399,000 HHs (TV SportsFile, 6/11). AND THE HORSES: The Belmont Stakes rating of a 6.0/17 was up 2% over last year's 5.9/18 (ABC).
