          NAMES & FACES: Former Miami (OH) Univ. F Wally
     Szczerbiak, who is eligible for the June 30 NBA Draft, will
     be represented in contract negotiations by his father, Walt,
     and has hired Pro-Tech's Gary Wichard for marketing deals. 
     Szczerbiak will be in an episode of "Arliss" and is
     scheduled to do a Tommy Hilfiger photo layout for ESPN
     Magazine (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 5/21)....Puma formally
     announced that Oscar De La Hoya has signed a multi-year deal
     to endorse its footwear and apparel (Puma)....Garden Fresh
     of Idaho will team with Kroger Stores' Indianapolis division
     to sponsor driver Lyn St. James at the Indy 500 (THE DAILY).
          CAREFUL AT BAT: Rawlings Sporting Goods "recalled
     about" 45,000 slow-pitch softball aluminum bats "for safety
     reasons," as the bats "may be prone to instances of the tops
     ... shearing off during use" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 5/21).
