NAMES IN THE NEWS

          PRINCE NASEEM HAMED was profiled in Sunday's
     PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER MAGAZINE, where George Azar wrote that
     the "private Naseem Hamed is a courteous young man."  Asked
     why he acts like a "jerk in public," Naseem Hamed said, "I
     want people to say either, 'The guy is brilliant, I want him
     to be a legend, or, on the other side of the coin, I can't
     wait till the little cocky bastard, the arrogant little
     bombastic Arab, gets his head knocked completely off his
     shoulders'" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER MAGAZINE, 5/16)....Sports
     marketing firm STARCARE has a new TV/Film production arm and
     Steelers RB JEROME BETTIS is set to "topline" its new debut
     show, "Primetime."  Starcare is in talks with "three major"
     TV production companies (DAILY VARIETY, 5/17)....One agent,
     on Colts RB EDGERRIN JAMES, who is still searching for a
     certified agent: "This guy's interviewed about 100 agents. 
     He seems to want people to work for him for free.  That's
     not work.  That's charity" (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/16)....Phillies
     P CURT SCHILLING read "The Top 10 Curt Schilling Pre-Game
     Rituals" on Friday's "Late Show."  No. 8) "Call PETE ROSE --
      See what the line is on the game."  No. 6) "Smoke one of
     those weird cigarettes ALLEN IVERSON gave me" (CBS,
     5/14)....On the "Tonight Show" with JAY LENO, band leader
     KEVIN EUBANKS again wore a 76ers jersey.  Leno: "Kev, that's
     the second night you're wearing that Phillies T-shirt." 
     Eubanks: "Phillies?  That's baseball, man" (NBC, 5/14).
