NICE PAY HIKE ... PGA TOUR TO INCREASE NIKE TOUR PURSES

          Nike Tour prize money "could rise as much as" 55% next
     year with the help of a "proposed subsidy" from the PGA
     Tour, according to Michael Buteau of BLOOMBERG NEWS.  The
     PGA Tour, which sponsors the Nike Tour, is looking to
     "elevate the stature of the developmental tour."  PGA Tour
     Commissioner Tim Finchem said the subsidy could increase the
     Nike Tour's minimum purse from $225,000 to $350,000 in 2000. 
     Without the subsidy, next year's minimum purse was
     "projected to grow" only $25,000 (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 5/13).
