FACILITY NOTES: TIGER STADIUM EMPLOYEE SWEPT FROM JOB

In Detroit, Tom Gage reports that a popcorn vendor at
Tiger Stadium has been dismissed for "unbecoming conduct"
during the Tigers' victory over the Yankees on Sunday.
Sportservice Corp.'s Karen Libertore: "He took a broom from
our commissary and was seen sweeping the (top of the)
Yankees' dugout late in the game to signify the Tigers'
series sweep. We've had talks with representatives of the
Tigers about it, but they weren't part of this. They
deferred to our judgment" (DETROIT NEWS, 4/20).
NOTES: In AZ, the Avondale City Council voted 5-2 to
form a stadium district with Scottsdale to "help finance" a
proposed $624M hockey arena complex to be the new home for
the Coyotes. Arena developers and the Coyotes need a second
city to "use a state tax break" to help pay for the complex.
A Scottsdale vote on the district is set for May 18 (AZ
REPUBLIC, 4/20)....The new $125M Nashville superspeedway
located in Wilson County, TN, won't be ready until 2001, a
year later than expected (TENNESSEAN, 4/20)....The
Jacksonville Sports & Entertainment Board will hold a public
meeting to examine replacing the "existing Coliseum with a
larger arena." Board member Lawrence Jaffe said that the
effort "is not based on efforts to attract" an NBA or NHL
franchise, but rather to possibly attract NCAA basketball
tournament games or arena football (TIMES-UNION, 4/17).
