A ROYAL IDEA: PRENTICE SAYS TEAM CAN MAKE ADVERTISING GAINS

Prospective Royals Owner Miles Prentice has been
exploring the idea of selling naming rights to Kauffman
Stadium as one way to increase revenue at the facility,
according to Steve Rock of the K.C. STAR. Prentice: "If you
go out to my ballpark in Midland (TX), there are signs
wherever it's tastefully possible to put out signs. That's
a source of revenue we have to tap into." Prentice said
that "the amount of untapped advertising revenue at Kauffman
Stadium is upwards of $5 million, easily." Rock writes that
since '94, the Royals have "tripled" their advertising and
sponsorship revenue, though team officials don't disclose
specific numbers. Prentice: "My goal is to try and increase
it by a healthy number each year that would be north of
$500,000." The Royals have placed an ad for Farmland
Industries "embedded in the grass" beyond the left-field
wall. Prentice: "I would like to have a lot more
advertising. Perhaps it won't be (on the dugouts). I have a
sneaking suspicion it will be" (K.C. STAR, 4/20).
