NEW YORK STATE OF MIND ... FOR SECOND MLS TEAM?

MetroStars investor-operators John Kluge and Stuart
Subotnick are "considering" acquiring a second MLS franchise
to be placed in the N.Y. area, according to Ike Kuhns of the
Newark STAR-LEDGER. MetroStars VP & GM Charlie Stillitano
said the "initial focus" is in N.Y. with the hope of
"creating a rivalry" like the Devils-Rangers in the NHL and
Nets-Knicks in the NBA. Stillitano said that other
potential MLS cities could be Philadelphia, Seattle and
Portland. MLS Commissioner Doug Logan said a new franchise
     couldn't be placed in N.Y. before 2001 (STAR-LEDGER, 4/18).
