TMS' NEW SPEEDWAY BOOGIE? SPEND A LITTLE TIME IN THE CAR LOT

It took some people who attended that Primestar 500 on
Sunday "more than six hours" to leave Texas Motor Speedway,
according to Vozzella & Sanders of the FT. WORTH STAR-
TELEGRAM. Most of the record 221,861 fans got off the
grounds in "about" 4 1/2 hours, as an accident and a stalled
RV added "an hour or two" wait to some of the traffic. But
traffic "wasn't the only trouble," as one raceway attendee
was shot on the track's campground during the logjam. TX
resident Allan Davis is currently being held in a Ft. Worth
jail on charges of attempted murder after shooting a
neighboring camper in the shoulder (STAR-TELEGRAM, 3/30).
One raceway attendee: "The speedway owners and managers
don't have any concept of what their fans are going through.
We had to sit in that atmosphere for so many hours, and no
one from the speedway was left to care about it." TMS Dir
of Public Relations Sarona Winfrey said that speedway
officials "are concerned about any incidents that occur in
parking lots" and the company is "working on the traffic and
the patterns of the fans" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 3/30).
