ANOTHER ONE BIKES THE DUST? LONGTIME ATLANTA RACE IN LIMBO

The Atlanta Grand Prix bicycle race is "dead, or at
least critically wounded," as the event "fell victim" to
both city officials, who wanted to move the race from the
spring to the fall, and title sponsor Outdoor Life Network
(OLN), "which did not want" a fall date, according to Arthur
Brice of the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. OLN had "assumed" the
$500,000 title deal after First Union opted out of its
seven-year stint as the event's title sponsor and OLN Senior
VP/Programming Peter Englehart said the fall date "just
didn't make sense to us. We'd be competing against some big
events down there. ... We had concerns about getting lost in
the fall menu of sports" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 2/26).
