On ESPN.com, Jeffrey Denberg reports sources who say
that Nets VP/coach John Calipari "is on his way out."
Calipari "is not speaking to Nets President Michael Rowe,
doesn't have a relationship with the new players, is
disliked by his staff an held up to ridicule by his players"
(ESPN.com, 2/16)....On Thursday, Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones
"celebrates the 10-year anniversary of his high-profile
purchase" of the team. Jones: "The critics still harp on
whether I'm a 'football man.' I've been doing this for 10
years. How long does it take to be a football man?" (Ft.
Worth STAR-TELEGRAM, 2/20)....In N.Y., sources of Peter
Vecsey said that Hornets Owner George Shinn "is actively
trying to sell" the team because he is "unable to gain
cooperation with the city ... regarding a new arena" (N.Y.
POST, 2/21)....Dennis Rodman has called a news conference
today at the Beverly Hills Planet Hollywood (USA TODAY,
2/22). In L.A., Mark Heisler wrote that sources said
Rodman's agents "asked for something under the table -- a
house, piece of land, whatever" from Lakers Owner Jerry Buss
when the two met. Rodman previously "tried for weeks to pry
a movie deal out of Fox" (L.A. TIMES, 2/21). On NBC's
"Showtime" Saturday, Peter Vecsey reported on Rodman's $3M
contract with Converse: "Sources tell me unless he plays 31
games, he will not get paid" ("Showtime," NBC, 2/20).
Rodman said Friday, "If Converse is saying if you don't
play, we don't give you any money, I think that's bad public
relations. ... I've done great things for Converse. I've
put Converse back on the map" ("Up Close," ESPN, 2/19).
