TERJE TELLS BURTON HIS PLAN: ISN'T IT GOOD? NORWEGIAN WOOD

Norwegian snowboarder Terje Haakonsen will announce
today that he is "boycotting" the 2002 Salt Lake City Games
to "protest corruption surrounding the selection of host
cities and sport governing bodies," according to USA TODAY's
Sal Ruibal. Haakonsen skipped the '98 Games after calling
the IOC "the Mafia." Haakonsen is "getting support" from
his sponsor, VT-based Burton Snowboards, as the company took
out a "parody" classified ad in USA Today that "pokes fun at
the IOC." The ad reads, "Benefits include free college
tuition, real estate 'advice,' first-class accommodations,
meals, travel and firearms" (USA TODAY, 2/19).
