N.Y. STORIES: METS TO MOVE FROM WWOR TO WPIX

WPIX-WB, which recently lost its TV rights to the
Yankees after nearly 50 years with the team, has agreed to a
broadcast deal with the Mets, according to Mushnick & Starr
of the N.Y. POST. The move hits previous Mets carrier,
WWOR-UPN, with a "big blow," as the Mets games have "scored
solid ratings" and the UPN affil is "saddled with a weak
prime-time lineup." But Mushnick & Starr report that the
deal will pose "an interesting scheduling dilemma" for WPIX
because it "airs red-hot WB shows like 'Dawson's Creek'"
(N.Y. POST, 1/26). The new deal calls for WPIX to carry 50
games in '99 and 40 games in 2000. Sources say WPIX will
pay a straight per-game rights fee, compared to WWOR's
previous revenue-sharing agreement (DAILY VARIETY, 1/26).
METROSTARS INK PACT: N.Y.'s Radio Unica 1660-AM signed
an exclusive Spanish-language radio deal with the MetroStars
to broadcast 31 of the team's 32 games in '99. The
broadcasts, which will be carried live, will also feature a
30-minute call-in show prior to the games (MetroStars).
