TOM WELCH TO WORK WITH SLOC ON BRIBERY INVESTIGATION

          Former SLOC President Tom Welch and SLOC officials
     "agreed Wednesday to work together to provide answers for
     two investigations into bribery allegations against the
     Olympic bid committee led by Welch," according to Gorrell &
     Walsh of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE.  Welch "has kept his
     distance" from SLOC since resigning in '97 after pleading no
     contest to a misdemeanor charge of spousal abuse.  The IOC
     committee, in its investigation of bribery allegations, "had
     two meetings totaling about 2 1/2 hours" with SLOC officials
     over the weekend in Lausanne, Switzerland (SALT LAKE
     TRIBUNE, 12/17).  Committee Chair Dick Pound: "There's a
     body of what I understand to be written evidence of canceled
     cheques and things like that.  We want it on the front
     burner and turned up high.  I told them I want everything in
     the files before Christmas" (TORONTO STAR, 12/17).
