The CBA expansion Trenton Shooting Stars have followed
the lead of a St. Louis team and "jumped to the upstart IBL"
to become the league's 10th team, according to Jed
Weisberger of the Trenton TIMES. The Shooting Stars were
set to begin play in the CBA for the '99-2000 season, but
Shooting Stars ownership group head Dr. Herb Greenberg said
that he "simply felt the IBL had more to offer for the
Greater Trenton market." Greenberg: "Nothing we have done
should be thought of in diminishing the CBA. ... For
numerous reasons, we thought the IBL is the type of league
we'd like to have Trenton be a part of." Greenberg also
announced an arrangement with Amtrak to sell Shooting Stars
tickets on the Trenton-N.Y. commuter route. IBL VP & co-
General Counsel Paul Garofolo said that the league has
"talked" to FSN, ESPN and ESPN2 about a TV deal, with a
"plan to have 12 games on nationally next year" (Trenton
TIMES, 12/17). Greenberg is also President & CEO of
Princeton-based Caliper Sports Group, an HR assessment firm
that has worked with various NBA teams since '84 (IBL).
