DECENT EXPOSURE: COWBOYS OFFER IRVING IMMEDIATE DEAL FOR $3M

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones said that Irving's name will
be on top of Texas Stadium in time for this season's
playoffs "if the city will ante up $3 million," according to
Diane Smith of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. Jones, who
"pitched" the plan to city officials Tuesday: "This thing is
almost a free ride. This is getting in the Cadillac for a
penny and riding with the people who are paying hundreds and
thousands of dollars." In the deal, Irving would pay $15M
for five years of "worldwide recognition" which private
corporations annually pay $11M or $12M for. In its lease
agreement with the Cowboys, the city "doesn't have the right
to put up any logos or signs at the stadium," so Jones "has
the power to negotiate such a deal." City officials will
"discuss" the proposal next week, and a public hearing and a
vote are scheduled for January 7 (STAR-TELEGRAM, 12/10).
