FIRST ROUND OF BIDDING FOR SKINS COMPLETE; LIST GETS SHORTER

Trustees for the estate of the late Jack Kent Cooke
have narrowed the list of 10 bidders for the Redskins to six
or seven finalists, including an "unidentified group" who
made an offer of "around" $600M, according to sources of
Thomas Heath of the WASHINGTON POST. The list of finalists
will "likely include" Redskins President John Kent Cooke,
Orioles Owner Peter Angelos, each with bids "less than"
$500M, and the joint bid from Isles co-Owner Howard Milstein
and Snyder Communications Chair Daniel Snyder. Sources add
that Tony and Ben Scotti, founders of Hollywood production
company All American Productions, also "appear to be heading
an effort to buy the team," but are not part of a group that
made the $600M bid. N.Y. real estate financier Andrew
Penson and Wall Street investor Ted Forstmann "are no
longer" in the running (WASHINGTON POST, 11/28).
WHERE'S CALVIN HILL? In Cleveland, Tony Grossi wrote
that the absence of Calvin Hill from Milstein's group
bidding for the Redskins "lends credence to reports of a
falling-out" concerning what Hill and Paul Warfield -- both
involved in Milstein's bid for the Browns -- perceived as
potential roles with the Browns. Should Milstein acquire
the Redskins, Islanders President David Seldin would become
the team president (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 11/29).
