FACILITY NOTES

Officials from the Giants, Jets, MetroStars and NJ
Sports & Exposition Authority "believe it is likely Giants
Stadium will be a grass-only facility by next football
season." Part of the decision "will involve who pays an
estimated" $3.5-4M for the conversion (N.Y. TIMES, 11/29).
....A CHARLOTTE OBSERVER editorial addressed public
financing of a new Hornets arena: "Certainly a team is of
some value to the entire community. But Charlotte is doing
without pro basketball right now, and a goodly number of
citizens feel no deprivation at all. The question is not
whether a new arena is good for the Hornets and their fans,
but whether it is good for the city. ... We think it can be,
if the cost to taxpayers and the overall usefulness of the
facility for the city are right" (CHAR. OBSERVER, 11/29).
