BOWLEN LEADS THE WAY IN DONATIONS TO STADIUM BALLOT ISSUE

Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen "poured $300,000 more into the
campaign to win voter approval for a taxpayer-funded
stadium," bringing his stake in the ballot issue to
$650,000, according to Burt Hubbard of the ROCKY MOUNTAIN
NEWS. Bowlen's contribution was "the biggest" of the more
than $2M raised over the past three weeks for statewide
ballot measures. So far, more than $6M "has flowed into the
initiative campaigns." Broncos players gave $27,340 as a
group, led by John Elway's $10,000 and Terrell Davis'
$5,000. Coach Mike Shanahan gave $5,000. Other
contributors included TFM Holdings ($100,000), US West and
Sprint ($25,000 each). Citizens For A New Stadium spent
"almost $600,000 during the three weeks, most of it on TV
and radio advertising." Stadium opponents Citizens Opposed
to a Stadium Tax raised about $7,500, bringing their total
to "almost $21,000" this year (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 10/21).
ENDORSEMENT? CO Gov. Roy Romer, to the CO Association
of Commerce & Industry, on the Broncos' stadium ballot: "For
God's sake, I want a new stadium for the Broncos, too, but
the stadium is a pimple on someone's rear end compared to
the issue of education" (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 10/21).
