Fox Sports NY, which airs a 100-game Mets schedule,
acquired the rights to 50 additional Mets games in a
multiyear agreement beginning next season. FSNY will seek
an over-the-air carrier to broadcast the games in the NY
area (FSNY). The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER lists WPIX-WB and WWOR-
UPN as "contenders" (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 10/13).
OTHER NOTES: ESPN Radio 1000 debuted in Chicago
yesterday, and the TRIBUNE's Ed Sherman wrote that ESPN is
"looking to redefine how sports is done on radio, just as it
did on television." But ESPN's competitors and critics
"contend that the radio version of ESPN will be AWOL in
[Chicago], mainly because the bulk of its programming won't
be about [Chicago]" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 10/12)....In
Baltimore, Sandra Crockett reviewed the Avon novel,
"Homecourt Advantage," written by Rita Ewing, the separated
wife of Knicks C Patrick Ewing, and Crystal McCrary, the
wife of Sonics G Greg Anthony. Crockett: "The book is a
gossipy, catty, self-serving peek into the multi-million
dollar world of athletes and their families. ... This means,
of course, it's one heck of a fun read" (SUN, 10/12).
