THE SON ALSO RISES IN BID TO PURCHASE THE TWINS

Minneapolis attorney & former Twins VP Clark Griffith
made a bid on Monday of "about" $100M to buy the Twins from
Owner Carl Pohlad, according to Charley Walters of the ST.
PAUL PIONEER PRESS. Griffith "represented a group of fewer
than 10 investors," including his father Calvin Griffith who
sold the Twins to Pohlad in '84 for $38M. As part of a two-
year Metrodome lease extension, Pohlad and the Metropolitan
Sports Facilities Commission "agreed to a one-month period
for identifying serious buyers," with that period ending
Monday. Griffith's bid was the only one received (ST. PAUL
PIONEER PRESS, 9/15). In Minneapolis, Jerry Zgoda writes
that people close to the bid said the offer was for $110M on
behalf of six investors, but it is unclear whether the bid
price includes "assumption of the team's debts and player-
contract obligations" (STAR TRIBUNE, 9/15). Twins President
Jerry Bell could not be reached for comment (AP, 9/15).
