NAMES IN THE NEWS

          Hockey HOFer BOBBY HULL responded to a Moscow Times
     story that suggested he was a racist "with a fierce denial
     and a threat to sue."  Hull: "I will use all legal means
     against those responsible for these outrageous lies and
     distortions of the truth" (CP/EDMONTON JOURNAL, 8/27). 
     Among the comments reportedly said by Hull in the Moscow
     interview was that Adolf Hitler had some "good ideas."  Hull
     told the N.Y. POST, "Hitler was a horrible man" (N.Y. POST,
     8/27).  The Moscow Times "said it is standing by its story"
     (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 8/27)....JAMIE LYNN BENCE sang the
     National Anthem before Game One of the Angels-Yankees
     doubleheader yesterday, becoming the youngest person to sing
     at all 30 MLB ballparks.  Bence, on her interest in
     baseball: "As far as players go, I don't know any of their
     names.  I'm more of a singer" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 8/27)....  
     Cowboys QB TROY AIKMAN, who bought 30 acres of land in '95
     in Westlake, TX, has sold it back to Mavs Owner ROSS PEROT
     JR., "apparently abandoning plans for a 15,000-square-foot
     ranch house" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 8/27)....Bucs DT
     WARREN SAPP is interviewed in the next issue of Penthouse. 
     Bucs coach TONY DUNGY, on Sapp appearing in the magazine:
     "It was really kind of a non-issue.  We're involved in the
     sports business and it goes through a lot of channels.  I'm
     not a big beer drinker, but if it weren't for beer and all
     the money spent on advertising, I probably wouldn't have a
     job" (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 8/27)....Warner Books Exec Editor
     RICHARD WOLFF has co-written a book with N.Y. Times sports
     writer RICHARD SANDOMIR called "Don't Worry, Stop Sweating,
     Use Deodorant" (N.Y. POST, 8/26).
