THAT OLD "MAGIC" MISSING IN SHOW'S OPENING WEEK NUMBERS

"THE MAGIC HOUR," which premiered last week in
syndication, posted a Monday-Thursday overnight rating
average of 2.3/6, according to Cynthia Littleton of DAILY
VARIETY, who writes that while the show's numbers were "not
spectacular," they were "on par with what its stations in
the overnight markets were averaging in the timeslot during
the past May sweep." "Magic's" four-day average came in
lower than the premiere week averages for the since-
cancelled "Keenan Ivory Wayans Show" and "Vibe" (DAILY
VARIETY, 6/15). In Hartford, James Endrst reviews the show
and says Johnson "has no moves. His line readings are
labored, his comedic passes off the mark" (COURANT, 6/15).
MAGICAL: Johnson, who recently opened the first inner-
city Starbucks coffee shop in L.A., is "on the brink of
announcing plans to open a handful of additional Starbucks
in under-served black neighborhoods" (USA TODAY, 6/15).
