I GOT GAME, YOU GOT GAME, HE GOT GAME, RAY'S GOT GAME

Touchstone Pictures film "HE GOT GAME," written and
directed by SPIKE LEE and starring Bucks G RAY ALLEN, will
have a special Milwaukee screening April 30. The screening
will benefit Allen's Ray of Hope Foundation (Bucks).
DOES MOVIE GOT GAME? ROLLING STONE's Peter Travers
writes that "He Got Game provides potent entertainment even
if you find hoops about as enticing as soggy sweat socks.
Lee scores points for capturing the thrill of the game
without flinching from its abuses." Allen "is acutely
affecting" as high school basketball sensation Jesus
Shuttlesworth, and cinematographer Malik Hassan Sayeed
"lights the hoop action with a reverence that intensifies
when NBA players such as TRAVIS BEST, JOHN WALLACE, WALTER
MCCARTY and RICK FOX join Allen on this sacred ground"
(ROLLING STONE, 5/14 issue). In Milwaukee, Bob Wolfley
writes that Allen is "not an embarrassment but he's not a
thespian star burst." Wolfley added that "Even though there
are legions of basketball coaches and players who make
appearances in this movie, it is not a basketball movie.
This is a family drama in which basketball is the backdrop"
     (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 4/21).
