SUNS SIGN DEAL WITH U.S. WEST, PLAN ADDITION TO AMERICA WEST

          Phoenix-based U.S. West Communications signed a 25-year
marketing pact with the Suns, under which it will be the
official communications company for the team through 2023,
according to AD AGE. In addition, U.S. West's new fiber
optic TeleChoice digital TV and online service, which will
be available in the Phoenix market in 2000, will carry Suns
games starting in 2003. Terms were not disclosed (AD AGE,
4/20). In Phoenix, Chris Fiscus reports that the deal also
calls for the construction of the U.S. West Pavilion, a
four- or five-level addition to America West Arena which
will include a new arena entrance, a restaurant, expanded
concessions, office space, underground parking and an
atrium. The project will cost "about" $15M-20M, and will be
funded by U.S. West and the Suns. Suns CEO Jerry Colangelo
said that he hopes to break ground "within a year" and have
the pavilion completed by 2000 (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 4/21).
