SUDDEN IMPACT: QB POSTER BOYS ALL THE TALK IN LOCAL MARKETS

As of Monday night, the Colts' Web site had received
about 181,000 hits since the team drafted QB Peyton Manning
on Saturday with the first pick in the NFL Draft, according
to Mike Chappell of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS. In
addition, Colts Dir of Ticket Sales Greg Hilton said the
phones in the ticket office "rang nonstop" on Monday. To
     date, "approximately" 94% of the team's 11,000 season-ticket
accounts have been renewed (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 4/21).
On NBC's "Tonight Show," Jay Leno noted the NFL Draft: "The
Colts had the first draft pick. Force of habit, they
decided to punt" ("Tonight Show," NBC, 4/20).
NEW LEAF? In San Diego, the UNION-TRIBUNE editorialized
on the Chargers' drafting of Ryan Leaf: "Leaf signifies that
San Diego is moving forward. Those who screamed that the
[Chargers] stadium deal was the worst civic crisis ever,
that city leaders who supported it were fools and that the
Spanos family had no impetus to field a good team may have
just been proven wrong" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 4/20).
