49ers President Carmen Policy was interviewed during
ESPN's coverage of the NFL Draft. On the team's ownership
situation: "We've been able to operate in a business-as-
usual fashion, so I don't sense that there's going to be a
disruption of what we're going to have to do and what we're
trying to do this season." On when he last talked to co-
Owner Eddie DeBartolo: "It's been a couple of months, I
believe the latter part of January since Eddie and I
talked." NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, on the 49ers
situation: "Hopefully these off-field things will resolve
themselves in the coming months, but we want stability and
continuity" ("NFL Draft," ESPN, 4/18). In S.F., Glenn
Dickey writes that "[t]wo points can be deduced" from a
letter sent by Denise DeBartolo York to Tagliabue last week.
First, the allegation that DeBartolo York is angry with team
President Carmen Policy "is false," and second, DeBartolo
York "is preparing to sell her interest outside the family,
and probably trying to persuade [Eddie DeBartolo] to do the
same." Dickey said she has made a decision "that Policy is
the best man to run the 49ers" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/20).
RAVENS: In Baltimore, John Steadman wrote on the
Ravens' sale of PSLs for the team's new stadium, and noted
that Sunday's Baltimore Sun carried 37 classified ads from
Ravens fans trying to sell their tickets. Steadman wrote
that many fans feel they were "misled" by the team with
regards to the cost of the PSLs, and that, "The demands put
upon the fans are appalling. The new NFL and its greed has
no limits" (John Steadman, Baltimore SUN, 4/19).
